Daniel caught my eye at the LGBT center's board game night, his nervous laugh a counterpoint to my boisterous, overly-competitive spirit, a classic opposites attract gay cliché. We spent the evening playfully arguing over the rules of Settlers of Catan, and it was then I realized how much I craved the courage he possessed, simply by being open about who he was, something I still struggled with. Mark's quiet strength inspired me, and after a hesitant first date, holding his hand felt like the bravest, most natural thing I'd ever done, our differences fading into the background as we built a love as strong and vibrant as the entire LGBT community we were part of.
