I never expected to find my future husband, a fellow gay man no less, hiding behind a giant beach umbrella, looking adorably flustered as he tried to untangle his headphones—it was Eli, and he was clearly regretting his choice of reading material, an academic text about LGBT representation in film, during his beach day. Seeing him blush when I offered to help, my heart did a little somersault, and I knew right then and there that this awkward, sandy encounter was the start of something amazing.
